I finally found an easy way to get vent visor adhesive and tape off.

So, I bought a 2005 Nissan Xterra 4x4 as a daily driver, I actually need to post more stuff about it because I really like this car and it was a vehicle I hadn’t previously considered, but I digress. It came with some ugly old vent visors. I hate vent visors. Also, these were coming loose and flapping around and all kinds of annoying shit, they needed to go.

Not a fan. So I took them off with some very thin nylon string. I just ran it behind the visor and worked my way back making a sawing motion. Easy peasy.

Of course, this removed the visor from the tape, but didn’t remove the tape and adhesive from the car.

Not great looking. I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal and I went to Home Depot and got some cheap plastic scrapers and some goof off. I was very wrong. After 20 minutes of scraping, I had gotten something like an inch of tape off. Finally I remember that I bought something for my project truck that would probably work pretty damn well for this application. It’s called the Wonder Wheel. I bought it for taking off old decals on my 82 C10. I brought it home from work and attached it to my drill. It looked like this when I was starting:

Like 30 seconds later, it had knocked off half of the tape and adhesive on the driver door

I did both windows and went back over it with some goof off and a microfiber towel. It’s still not 100% perfect (it’s actually not even really done, my drill battery died with a driver side rear window still to go), but it literally took less time to do all three doors than it did to get like an inch or two done by hand.

I’m gonna wrap up the other side and give it a good wash and finish getting the last few spots of adhesive off later this week, but if you are planning to take vent visors off, go ahead and do yourself a favor and pick up a Wonder Wheel on amazon. It will save your sanity.
